Is it possible to get Section 8 in another county and move it? The Dallas list has not been open since 2004, I am handicapped and really need some assistance. Please, anyone with any ideas would be much appreciated.

My daughter has severe learning disabilities which take most of my time. PLEASE HELP!

I am facing homelessness if I cannot find some kind of help!

Thank you in advance for any information that you may have in order to help us!

You only can if you work in that county. You are limited to two counties, where you live and where you work. Even if they are taking applications you are still looking at waiting at least 2 years.

If your own county Section 8 is not taking new applications, call around to other counties and ask if you can apply. That is what I did except I applied in the next county over to mine. The stipulation was when I got the voucher I was required to live there for 12 months, then I moved back to my home county but you can move anywhere after that as long as the new county is willing to take your voucher. Usually the home county has to pay your rent in the new county.

I am sorry you and daughter both have disabiities. There is no other program but HUD does have a couple of other subsidized housing programs and maybe Texas has also. Look for rural housing and tax credit properties. Your HA may have some info.

You may have to go to a shelter for families while you find a place to live. If you can find a job as a live-in domestic with your disabilities that would solve the problem, or work as an apartment mgr for reduced rent. At worst you should contact an advocate for the disabled to help you find housing that may be co-housing or shared housing. That exists where I live.

Unfortunately section 8 housing request have long waiting list no matter where you go. Check with your welfare office to see if they have a list of low income housing outside of the section 8 program. Good Luck

No. You can only apply in the county that you reside in.
