Rented room in a house where all the rooms are rented out!!!! I put this on the wrong country-sorry?

Hi all, i am renting a room in a house where all the rooms are rented out to different people, the landlord did not fully equipe the house with furniture, so i had to furnish my own room, also there were no wardrobes or drawers in some of the other rooms, so one of the guy's who was renting a room from the landlord,just left, he found something better,because he asked the landlord for some furniture i:e; a set of drawers and a wardrobe to put his clothes in, as there were none in his room, but he would not oblige, the lad was paying £100 pound per week, but the landlord, who does not live in the house refused and has now given me just two weeks notice, because he expects me to rent the rooms out for him, and blames me for the guy leaving. I have a monthly tenancy and i paid a month's deposit and a month's rent in advance when i moved in. I do not have a tenancy agreement as he is Korean and does not speak english very well. What legal rights do i have, more to tell but no room left.

Speak to your local council. However, since you have no tenancy agreement,then it might be hard to help you. Nonetheless, your local council can still step in for you on certain grounds. It happened to me once and my landlord was issued with a letter which prevented him from kicking me out even though I had no T agreement. I think you will find that the law is more on the side of tenants, just to prevent unscrupulous landlords from doing as they wish.

England/Wales Providing you continue to live in the property, and don't grant exclusive rights to a particular area to your housemate, then it isn't actually subletting - they are just a lodger. Most landlords wouldn't have a problem with this as the lodger has minimal tenancy rights and the more income you have, the better his chance of getting paid rent! However, it would be best to keep your landlord informed - if he thinks you are going behind his back he may not be keen to renew your tenancy when the time comes.
