Question:
Is an apartment lease valid if my name is misspelled?

I informed the girl who gave me the lease papers that my name is incorrect. My last name is "Brannigan" and they had it spelled "Grannings". I told her this and she said sign it anyway and come back tomorrow to sign the proper lease. I never signed a different lease and want to move out because this place is a dump. Would the lease not be invalid because it doesn't have my correct name?

maybe.

a typo in a lease does not make it invalid. But...

when you inform landlord of error they have a certain time frame to correct error or it can result in entire lease being held invalid.

Odds are 70/30 against you but you have a chance.

Try and search for landlord tenant laws for your state to see what you can find. Most states have brochures on line to help with these laws.

Misspellings do not make a lease invalid. Your other info such as work, social security number etc. pinpoint who you are and were qualified as before you signed your correct name on the lease. So no you cannot break your lease due to a misspelling.

YES, still valid, and YOU signed it and agreed to be bound by it.

The time to check out an apartment and building and neighborhood is BEFORE you sign the lease.

Next time just make change in name and initial it at time of signing.

Of course not. Your signature is still on the lease....spelled correctly.

It is valid. You signed it. Typos do not invalidate contracts.
