You will need to work on your credit for a good year to improve your score so you get an affordable rate. Pay all your bills on time. Pay more than the minimum due. Make good on all the past due stuff on your report. And it'll help if you have a decent amount to put down on the house.
If you don't have credit cards get a secured card. Charge a small amount monthly and make the payments on time. And then get another card and do the same with both. You gotta rebuild your credit to show that you'll make your house payment.

You need to establish credit. Even with bad credit you can get a credit card, albeit, the interest rate may be high. Get a credit card and charge only $20-$30 a month. Pay it off completely every month. That is going to establish good credit.Do this for about a year, then get a inexpensive vehicle and finance it, when that note is almost paid off, apply for a home loan.
