You will need to go to school for the necessary knowledge and ultimate licensing. You must be licensed to perform the duties. You will also be required to take re-fresher courses to maintain your license. I recommend you intern at a current appraisal firm to learn the necessary ropes before you try to open up shop. The business is very competitive and you will need to make a name for yourself.
