I live in Georgia, and my rent is due by the third each month, my hours were cut at work and I need help paying my rent. I have until the 10th before there is a $200 charge, any suggestions? I don't know about the eviction process, but I don't know where to turn for answers. Please someone help.

It sounds like you need a second job.

The Salvation Army will help ONCE, if you can prove you can pay the ernt next month.

A $200 late charge seems pretty excessive to me. I would first contact your family members and see if you could borrow off of any of them. If you cannot find anyone to borrow from, start looking for a second job immediately. Also, if you have a plasma center in your city, you can give plasma up to twice each week and you're paid $15-$25 each time you give (price varies at each location). This could earn you $100 in two weeks. Don't you have any money in savings for emergencies? This is why it's recommended to have 6-8 months of expenses saved, so that if a situation like this happens you don't end up homeless. Contact your landlord and explain the situation. Find out if he would lower the late charge for you, perhaps to $50 just for this month. Let him/her know that you are applying for a second job in order to bring your income back up. Ask around and see if you can babysit or mow a lawn or walk some dogs... anything to bring in some more money to cover your rent in time. The Salvation Army has funds to help with a one time rent payment, but this is usually reserved for low-income families, the elderly, and/or the disabled. Good luck to you.

Best advice is to call or write to LL to explain the current crisis/emergency. Most of us can understand that these are tough times. Ask to have the late charge forgiven this month while you make arrangements to obtain a second job of some kind indicating whether you have some confidence that this is indeed possible. If not, explain you will likely seek LL's approval for a sublet arrangement. Show that you're expecting to ride it out but prepared for the worst. It may buy you some time while you figure out your next move.

If your hours were cut, would you qualify for some unemployment benefits?

You can try the Salvation Army or United Way for immediate help, but don't count on it. I am sure their services are bursting at the seams with requests from those in need.

You need to start looking for a cheaper place to live.

The other persons answer, saying for you to find a roommate is right on. BUT that assumes that you already live by yourself. Their is only one other way, since your hours were cut. that means you have hours to work someplace else. Try fast food places, restaurants that need a hostess.. GOOD LUCK

Your parents are the only help available. You need to sell your stuff and find a second job.

You could try finding a roommate.
