When a contract is formed ,is the legal date the day it is filed?

Looking at an old abstract of 2 business's it shows the two parties made an agreement on such and such a date.... The date it was filed is much later. Which date is legal?

It depends upon the contract. If there was an agreement to make it effective upon the date of filing, then it's on the date of filing. If there was no mention of the date of effectivity in the contract, as a general rule, it should be effective on the date of signing.
